The Great Falls Animal Shelter said it is nearly empty after two days of free adoptions.

People lined the front desk of the shelter this past Tuesday and Wednesday, looking to adopt one of the shelter's 60 cats and dogs for free.

Along with the free adoption, the animals were also spayed or neutered, vaccinated and city licensed and tags free of charge.

Shelter Sidekick volunteer Laura McElhinney said after the adoptions only two cats and one bunny were left.

"We were saying 'Yes it's possible,' but you still have that little 'Yeah, you know, we're going to just get as many out as we can,' but to actually hit that goal we're kind of astonished really," McElhinney said. "It just feels great that that many animals found a new home."

The free adoptions were made possible by an anonymous donor.
