HELENA, Mont. (AP) - The governor's office and legislative leaders are negotiating possible changes to a proposed medical marijuana overhaul hours before the Legislature is expected to adjourn.
Gov. Brian Schweitzer's chief of staff met Thursday morning with five lawmakers to discuss Schweitzer's recommendations.
Senate Bill 423 rewrites the state's medical marijuana law to restrict who can access the drug and who can provide it to patients.
Senate Majority Leader Jeff Essmann, who is involved in the discussions, says the governor wants a mix of major and minor rewrites to the bill.
Lawmakers passed the measure Wednesday but have not yet transmitted it to Schweitzer.
The Legislature is expected to adjourn by the end of Thursday, meaning lawmakers will have to act quickly on any changes if a deal is struck.
