MISSOULA - The Gold Creek fire is now 98 percent contained with a current size of 170 acres. The fire, located 16 miles northeast of Missoula, was caused by lightning.
Firefighters continued gridding for spots and mop-up operations on Wednesday and will proceed with digging up burning material using water where necessary aling with extinguishing the embers. Crews will patrol through the end of shift Wednesday and transition operations to another team at 6 a.m. Thursday.
