When many of us think of the Gallatin County Fairgrounds, livestock buildings and show barns come to mind. Over the past few years however, the fairgrounds has become a year-round location for many events. Plans are in the works to improve one of the main buildings in an effort to increase that year-round traffic.
Say fairgrounds to someone and images of livestock, carnival rides and cotton candy probably come to mind. The county fair is still a staple of event at the Gallatin County Fairgrounds, but the facility has also grown in to a year-round facility. Now one of the main buildings on the grounds is going to get a much needed modernization. Don Seifert is a member of the Fairgrounds Foundation. "The fairgrounds has got the indoor arena and it's becoming a little aged and we're hoping to replace that with a new and improved facility. A little larger but still be able to sponsor the same events in there that we always have, but yet add some more venues and abilities with that building."
The building will be expanded...to accommodate other events such as trade shows. This will expand the use of the fairgrounds, but will also benefit the more traditional Gallatin County Fair as well.
Seifert says the foundation believes the fairgrounds is an important part of the community and should be maintained to continue serving the community. "The fairgrounds is such an asset for the people of the Gallatin Valley and the people of Bozeman that we're going to try to improve on those assets and continue to make it a spot where people can come and families can come and just really enjoy themselves."
Seifert also says there are plans in the works to expand the Haynes pavilion to better accommodate the various skating activities it currently.
The foundation is holding a dinner to begin raising money for the indoor arena renovation. January 18th starting at 5:30 in Building one...the foundation will hold its annual meeting then host dinner with live music by the Ringling Five. Tickets are available at the Fairgrounds office.
