BOZEMAN - Gallatin County collected about $1.1 million by housing inmates from outside the county during the past year.
The county had expected to only collect about $250,000 by housing out-of-county inmates, Sheriff Brian Gootkin said.
More than $400,000 will be used to fund future expansion at the detention center. The rest will be used to buy new vehicles, equipment and other purchases.
During fiscal year 2013, the Gallatin County Sheriff's Office contracted with Madison, Park, Sweetgrass, Lewis and Clark and Yellowstone counties as well as the Montana Department of Corrections and the US Marshal's Office for inmate services.
