Former Missoula jailer admits to assault

MISSOULA - A former Missoula County detention officer has been given a six-month suspended sentence for punching an inmate several times.

Warren Soss pleaded guilty last week to a misdemeanor assault for punching the inmate 10 times in the head and four times in the stomach.

Prosecutors say Soss came into the inmates cell to clean up garbage and a scuffle ensued when the inmate tried to leave the cell.

Detectives reviewed the video of the incident which showed Soss throwing the inmate back into his cell, over the toilet and toward the wall.

Investigators say when the man tried to protect himself, Soss started punching him
