Flathead man sentenced for abusing girlfriend's baby

KALISPELL - District Judge David Ortley sentenced a Flathead-area man to five years suspended for injuring his girlfriend's child in October 2011.

Nickolas Fox admitted to slapping the infant girl across the face and said he cried afterwards because he "felt terrible."

The child's mother also admitted to abusing the girl when she told investigators she squeezed her daughter's face when she wouldn't take a bottle. Doctors had discovered bruises on her daughter's face and hand, hemorrhaging in both eyes and bleeding of the brain.

Samantha French was sentenced on child abuse charges in October of last year, stemming from the same incident.

Judge Ortley says he saw Fox's remorse for the incident and suspended the five year sentence.
