MISSOULA - The Missoula Senior Center on South Higgins Avenue will be closed until at least Monday after a Friday morning fire.
Executive Director Michelle Hastings said there's smoke damage inside the building, including in the thrift shop, which means the center will be shut down while restoration crews work to clean up the building. The closure also means that Saturday evening's dance has been cancelled.
Crews were called to the scene just after 6:15 a.m. Friday and arrived to find an attached outbuilding on fire. Firefighters doused the flames, but a small amount of fire entered the main building.
"The fire started in the open breezeway, started on the ground, in a spot in the corner. Nothing indicates any foul play or anything suspicious at this time," Fire Inspector Adam Sebastian explained.
Investigators are still trying to determine what sparked the blaze. No injuries were reported. There's no word yet on the cost of the estimated damages to the senior center.
