BUTTE - A fund has been set up and donations are being collected for a Butte woman and her two children who lost their home in an afternoon fire.

The fire was at a home in the first block of East Fremont Street, Butte Silver Bow Fire Department Chief Jeff Miller said. The home is a total loss.

The fire was reported just before 12:15 p.m. Wednesday. When fire crews arrived, they found the fire originated in the kitchen. It then spread into the attic and moved through the structure.

No one was home during the fire.

The home is next to a pair of residences on both sides, including one that is just inches away. The surrounding homes may have smoke damage and one may have slight water damage.

Butte Silver Bow Fire Department has contacted Red Cross about the family and the loss of their home. Friends also tell us a fund has been set up and monetary donations can be made to the Sarah Family Fund at the Energcomm Federal Credit Union. Clothing and other donations are being collected by friends. For more information on sizes, contact Emily 490-7366 or Tiffanie at the Best Western Butte Plaza Inn.
