BUTTE-Sink holes usually start showing up around Butte in the Spring time, but one has already surfaced in the Flats.
A small 3 foot wide depression that is about a foot deep has been found in the Floral Park neighborhood.
The depression was reported yesterday to Butte Silver Bow Reclamation Manager Tom Malloy.
Sink holes usually open up in the Spring time when the winter thaw cycle causes wooden mine shaft structures to collapse.
Butte Silver Bow officials are now researching this Floral Park neighborhood depression because it could be related to an old mine.
"He's curious because the original deed to the property references a mine on the property. He wants some investigation as to why he's got a depression in his front yard," says Malloy.
If you find a depression or sink hole contact the Butte Silver Bow Community Development department at 497-6257.
