DEER LODGE - A Deer Lodge man accused of stabbing his wife to death pleaded not guilty Tuesday.
Dennis Schowengerdt, 65, appeared in court in Powell County this morning.
Schowengerdt is charged with felony deliberate homicide. He reportedly stabbed his wife, Tina Schowengerdt, 66, with a foot-long knife at the couple's home earlier this month. She died from her injuries.
Schowengerdt reportedly thought about running from authorities, but instead, turned himself in. "I didn't even feel bad about it," he reportedly told authorities at the time.
Schowengerdt's representatives said they were concerned about his mental health. To preserve Schowengerdt's rights they entered a not guilty plea.
Schowengerdt and his wife owned MRC gas station in Deer Lodge.
Earlier this month, nearly 100 people turned out at a vigil in Deer Lodge to remember Tina Schowengerdt.
