HELENA - A grass fire started in the south hills of Helena shortly after 4 p.m. on Friday.
The fire burned about an acre before firefighters were able to get a handle on it.
The fire burned within about 100 feet of some homes near the Saddle Drive area.
According to a Helena citizen who called us, he could see residents standing on their rooftops spraying their hoses.
The fire burned in dead grass right up to the edges of green grass in the neighborhood.
We're told that power briefly flickered in the area.
Helena firefighters were first on the scene with Helena National Forest hotshot crews in three trucks showing up later.
DNRC also came onto the scene with two tankers.
The cause of the fire is still unknown at this time.
It burned in a neighborhood near the Touchmark Assisted Living home off Saddle Drive.
