BILLINGS - Four years after making world music headlines, a Red Lodge/Billings country singer is headed to federal prison for wire fraud and money laundering.

On Thursday, U.S. District Judge Richard Cebull sentenced Mitchell John Romersa to four years in prison.

The Romersa, 51, who performs under the name Mitchell John, admits to convincing an elderly widow to loan him $220,000.
He used $100,000 to pay personal debts and unlawfully used the other $120,000 for personal expenses.

The widow did not know Romersa's two businesses had dissolved some six months earlier.

In 2008, Europe's "New Country Music Awards," named Mitchell John "Country Artist of the Year."
