Chinook Sugarbeeters make it to final round in national Best Mascot contest

CHINOOK - The Chinook Sugarbeeters have advanced in the USA Today "Most Unique Mascot" contest.

Last week, the Sugarbeeters were trailing the Pratt (KS) Greenbacks, but fans of the Hi-Line team rallied when voting resumed on Monday. The Sugarbeeters racked up 2,767,229 votes, and the Greenbacks garnered 2,442,257.

The Sugarbeeters now move on to the final voting round, which began at 9 a.m. (Montana time) on Thursday, March 21 and ends at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 27.

The national winner of the competition will receive $2,000 for its athletic program and a banner. Second place receives $1,000. Third place will be awarded $500. Fourth place receives $250. Fifth place will earn $100 for the athletic department.

The other finalists are: Kingswood Oxford Wyverns of Connecticut, Key Obezags of Maryland, St. Mary's Episcopal Turkeys of Tennessee, Centralia Orphans of Illinois and Carbon Dinos of Utah.
