BUTTE - Matthew Blaz of Butte pleaded not guilty on Thursday in District Court to charges filed in the death of his baby daughter.
Blaz, 32, was charged with deliberate homicide for the death of his 8-week-old daughter, Mattisyn Jolene Blaz.
Blaz is accused of causing the death of the baby at his home in the 2000 block of South Arizona Street on August 16th.
The state medical examiner determined the child died from abusive head trauma and not an accidental fall, as it was initially reported.
Witness statements allege that Blaz was the sole person with the baby at the time of death, court documents claim.
District Judge Kurt Krueger set bond at $100,000 and remanded Blaz to jail.
Court records state that Blaz initially told police a child who lives in the neighborhood dropped the baby in his home.
Police said a medical exam on the victim disputes that claim.
His next court hearing is scheduled for November 14th.
