Butte Silver Bow Law enforcement is preparing for more than 100,000 people to be in the Butte area during the Montana Folk Festival.
A group of people called the Rainbow Family plan to have their 2013 gathering in Montana, according to their website Rainbow Family of Living Light.
The Rainbow Family is group that believes strongly in peace and love and bases many of their traditions in Native American culture.
In 2000 they held a gathering near Dillon. Nearly 25 thousand people participated. On June 7, they will hold council near Deer Lodge to decide where the gathering will be.
Sheriff Ed Lester is anticipating they will be drawn toward the Butte area.
Typically there are not many problems during the Montana Folk Festival, Lester said. But he plans to have extra foot patrols no matter how many are attending.
"We're not sure where they are going to be right now so we are just kind of waiting to start our planning on where they intend on being and if they are going to be close here obviously we are going to have to gear up," Lester said.
Sheriff Ed Lester says his department will be available to assists other agencies if the Rainbow Family settles on another location.
