The current groundwater infrastructure in Butte was installed almost a century ago, and Governor Schweitzer could approve a new $30.1 million dollar system.
Butte-Silver Bow city officials have prepared a groundwater restoration plan to improve the current groundwater system.
Mineral deposits from mining wastes have damaged the groundwater system.
Restoration plans include improving water main lines and water storage tanks in Butte.
Improvements to the Big Hole Water Treatment Plant would also be involved.
Construction on the project would start next next spring and should be finished by summer 2015.
The Governor should make a decision about the groundwater restoration plans after October 12th.
