Montana's state veterinarian confirms tests that show a Madison County cow is infected with brucellosis.
The Department of Livestock's Dr. Marty Zaluski says it's unfortunate and they don't like finding brucellosis in our cattle but it was found quickly thanks to the program they've invested a lot of time and effort into - and it's working.
The state will not lose its Brucellosis Class Free Status because of an interim rule that de-emphasizes class status and directs states to focus on surveillance.
The cow is in a herd of about 1,000 head which are currently quarantined and undergoing a whole-herd test.
