BOZEMAN - A man was in custody Wednesday night after being arrested after an attempted robbery of the Loaf and Jug convenience store on West Main Street.

Police reports say a little after 1 a.m. on Wednesday, October 3, a man entered the store through the main doors, pointed a black handgun at the store clerk and demanded money. Another man entered the store and the suspect fled.

The clerk called 911, and while Bozeman police officers were responding, they saw a red SUV leaving and speeding through the alley.

Officers tried to stop the vehicle as it was going south through the trailer park at 2220 West Main. The SUV stopped by a trailer and ignored commands to stop, and ran.

Officers pursued the suspect, while other officers set up a perimeter. The suspect was followed through the creek and into the trailer park at 2405 West College.

Shane L Jaeger, 24, was taken into custody in a corner of the trailer park.

Jaeger's identity was confirmed through a photo from the Florida Department of Corrections.

Several articles of clothing were found in the alley and in Jaeger's vehicle by two police dogs.

A jacket seen in the surveillance video from Loaf and Jug also matches one that was recovered near a trailer, according to police.

Jaeger denied any involvement in the robbery, saying he was fishing.

A backpack was holding a 9mm semi automatic pistol that was loaded.

Police say a records check reveals the suspect is an absconder from formal supervision for felony convictions in Florida.

Jaeger is being held at the Gallatin County Detention Center without bond on robbery charges.
