The red and black scrimmage is an annual chance for Bozeman High fans to see what their upcoming basketball teams will look like. This coming season is going to be something completely different than what fans saw last year.

"Our focal points this year is getting the ball inside," says boys head coach Wes Holmquist. "We've got a couple kids who can do some damage down there this year so we're gonna focus on that. Overall I was really pleased."

One of those with a presence inside in the scrimmage was 6'6'' forward Oliver Carr. A Junior, Carr displayed some great moves on the post and also on the run, including a fast break dunk in the first quarter. This is a stark contrast from the outside game Hawks fans say last year with the boys team.

For the girls, it's a team that doesn't have nearly the star power they did last year. Standouts Alexa Dawkins and Shanae Gilham are now playing Division 1 basketball at Montana State and Montana respectively. But one player to keep your eye on is Trae Roderick. The Senior has a terrific presence in the game and was by far one of the players who stood out the most.

"I thought we did some really good stuff," said head coach Brad Rustan. "You know early on we didn't move very well but we got better. I thought every kid that was out there...did some really good things and there's a lot of promise."

Both teams have a very different look than what we saw last year, but still generate that same excitement for the upcoming season. The boys and girls square off against Helena High on December 8th.
