BOZEMAN - Several people are without a home Thursday morning, as a late night fire damaged an apartment building.

Flames were visibly showing from the roof of the 12 apartment building at 807 West Villard by the time our news team arrived on scene around 11 pm Wednesday night.

Firefighters did a sweep of the building and found all residents were accounted for and no one was injured. However, one elderly woman had to be rescued from her upper level apartment.

"We had heavy fire on the 2nd and 3rd floors. We did have one occupant trapped on the 3rd floor and the fire department did rescue her. We had great coordination between the fire departments and the police departments, it had a big impact on the outcome of this incident," said Deputy Fire Chief Greg Megaard.

The shooting flames attract a crowd onlookers who gathered to see what happened.

Local neighbor McKenzie Ball said he went outside to check it out after hearng loud noises.

"I mean the flames were shooting out past the iron balconies and I mean there were transformers going off, power lines popping off glass breaking. It was fairly intense," said Ball.

Firefighters from multiple agencies responded to the blaze. Megaard says the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
