BILLINGS - The body of elite firefighter Dustin DeFord returned home to Ekalaka Wednesday afternoon.
Firefighters from Lockwood, Worden, Forsyth, Rosebud County, Custer County, Miles City, Ismay, Baker and others participated in the honorary escort. The firefighters stayed by DeFord's side from the moment he left Billings Logan International Airport.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Carter County High School Gymnasium in Ekalaka. Burial will follow in Beaverlodge Cemetery.
Jon Stevenson, an owner of Stevenson Funeral Homes, says 40 fire trucks and 200 firefighters have committed to take part in Saturday's funeral procession to honor DeFord.
DeFord was among the 19 Granite Mountain Hotshots killed in the Yarnell Fire earlier this month. An obituary and guest book can be found on the Stevenson Funeral Homes website.
