HELENA - Francene Cummings has been identified as the woman whose body was recovered in the irrigation canal near Green Meadow Drive on Tuesday afternoon.
Lewis & Clark County Coroner Mickey Nelson says that Cumming was 65 years old, and lived on the 3200 block of Canyon Ferry Road.
Cummings was reported missing early Tuesday morning by her husband after he said she failed to come home from a walk on Monday.
She was found in the canal on her birthday.
Her body was discovered by an irrigation worker around 4 p.m. on Tuesday about 10 miles from the couple's home.
Coroner Nelson said the woman's body was sent to Missoula for an autopsy, and preliminary reports are consistent with drowning.
He said they will also run a toxicology report for alcohol.
It took search and rescue divers about two hours to methodically retrieve her body from the canal, which was trapped in debris.
Her husband positively identified her on the scene.
