BILLINGS - Billings police have arrested a woman who is accused of hitting her ex-husband with her vehicle and then leaving the scene.

Shawna Smith, 34, of Billings, was arrested at 11:11 a.m. Monday morning. She is facing the charges of assault with a weapon and leaving the scene of a serious injury accident, according to Billings Police Lt. Kevin Iffland.

Shortly after 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Smith allegedly struck her ex-husband, Steve Furlong, 42, of Billings, with her Chevrolet Tahoe and left the scene on foot.

According to police, Furlong was walking on a sidewalk at 2nd Avenue South and South 39th Street Sunday afternoon. Smith was following him in her vehicle and they were in an argument.

Smith then drove onto the sidewalk and intentionally hit the man with her vehicle. She fled the scene on foot.

Furlong was transported to Billings Clinic and is listed in fair condition.

Neighbors say law enforcement was involved in another domestic incident with the couple just last year when the woman allegedly shot her husband.

Smith is currently behind bars at the Yellowstone County Detention Facility.
