A Billings man found dead in his cell at Montana State Prison three weeks ago died of a drug overdose, it has been revealed.
Powell County Coroner, John Pohle said, 23-year-old Cleveland Boyer died from mixed drug toxicity.
Pohle said he knows the drugs that killed Boyer, but he is not permitted to say.
However, he does say, the circumstances surrounding Boyers death are being investigated.
Boyer was serving a life sentence plus 20 years, for the fatal shooting of his former best friend outside a Billings gas station.
He was convicted last November for the March 2011 homicide.
August 24th, 2013:DEER LODGE - Cleveland Benjamin Boyer, an inmate at the Montana State Prison in Deer Lodge, was found in his prison cell on Friday, and according to Montana State Prison spokeswoman Linda Moodry, he was then taken to a local hospital where he died just before 9 p.m.
Authorities have not yet released the manner or cause of death.
Boyer was sentenced earlier this year for deliberate homicide after being convicted in the shooting death of 21-year-old Danny Valenzuela at a Holiday gas station in Billings.
Boyer's death was described as "unexpected" and an autopsy will be performed by the state medical examiner.
He was serving a life sentence.
