KALISPELL - The Flathead County Sheriff's Office has identified Peter Mahlum of Bigfork as the Flathead Valley Community College student who died after falling from a scaffolding on Monday.

Mahlum was a student in the Building Trades Program at FVCC, and was working on a class project at the time of the fall.
He was taken to Kalispell Regional Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.
FVCC President Jame Karas told MTN News on Monday that safety is the school's first priority, and added that they are working with investigators to determine what happened.
"We are working closely with the sheriff's department, and it's a very sad day - and all of our thoughts and prayers go out to the student's family. It's just something we hope we never have to deal with, and unfortunately it's a very sad, sad situation; very tragic," Karas told us.
Curry added in a news release that the investigation into Mahlum's death is still underway.
