Beaverhead County health officials have confirmed one case of whooping cough in an elementary school aged child.
The child reportedly came into contact with several other children during a Cub Scout meeting last week. As a precautionary measure, anyone exposed to the child is being tested for whooping cough or pertussis.
Some children are also being placed on antibiotics for 5 days to prevent sickness.
Healthcare providers say the best way to prevent whooping cough is through vaccination.
People of all ages are encouraged to receive the vaccine.
