HELENA - Black bears making the rounds have forced state officials to close down the Smith River State Park and River Corridor between Camp Baker and Eden Bridge.
State wildlife officials say they've seen recent black bear activity, involving more than one animal, at several boat camps in recent days.
Numerous cases have been reported where one or more black bears have gotten into food storage coolers and obtained food.
The bears have not shown a fear of humans, and the area will be closed until further notice.
Individuals with upcoming permits are being contacted by park staff through the Smith River Reservation Line.
