PLAINS - Three people, including two children are confirmed dead after their car was pulled out of the Clark Fork River Sunday.
Sanders County Sheriff, Tom Rummel, said 63-year old Kathy Legard, her grandson 13-year-old Jake Legard, and her granddaughter 4- year old Payten Yoder were in the vehicle.
Family members were on scene today as the car was pulled from the river. Kathy Legard's daughter-in-law said the family is devastated, but says the family would like to thank the community for all of their support during such a hard time.
Search and rescue crews began looking Friday evening, but weren't able to locate the vehicle, so the search resumed Saturday morning. Crews were called off again at 9 p.m. on Saturday.
Officials say two boats, six divers and a small plane are assisting in the search efforts, but high water and limited visibility are making things difficult. Divers say the water is 10-14 feet deep in the river.
