Thanksgiving may still be a few days away, but some Great Falls residents are celebrating tomorrow, as the Great Falls Rescue Mission prepares to feed over 300 people at their annual dinner.

Doug Dolan, head chef at the Rescue Mission, noted, "We've cooked about 58 turkeys, but we do it a little different then most people do at home. We quarter them, cut the breasts off and the drumsticks and then pant them up. It gives us a chance to cook more at one time."

And those who prefer whipping up the holiday meal themselves are also covered, Dolan added: "We put together 70 boxes of assorted stuff that they can use to make a Thanksgiving meal out of."

The Rescue Mission says this year they've seen a large spike in struggling families.

Rescue Mission director Jim Kizer explained, "People are just a lot more needy this year. Part of that, I think has to do with the economy. We have a lot of families out of work a lot of families that may have made a bad decisions in their life and are not able to have as much."

And making sure those around us have plenty is what workers say the holidays are all about.

Kizer continued, "It's really important that we give back something and take care of people that are homeless, and the realization that if we didn't do something like this, a lot of them wouldn't have that Thanksgiving meal."

The Rescue Mission says they are currently short on pies, cranberry sauce, and whip cream.

If you would like to donate any of those items or anything else, you are asked to drop them off at their office on 2nd Avenue South as soon as possible. You can also click here to visit their website.
