Local Boy and Girl Scouts of Malmstrom Air Force Base are working together to make this Thanksgiving holiday a blessed one for those less fortunate.
Shelby Kanski and Rylee Broach are on a mission to help the hungry this holiday season, and they're joining their fellow Boy, Girl and Cub Scouts to collect their favorite Thanksgiving food for the Great Falls Rescue Mission before the bid day arrives.
Collection day at Malmstrom Air Force Base started out a little slow, but Rylee Broach is hoping people will bring in a variety of food before Thanksgiving.
While the Scouts are enjoying collecting the food, Troop leader John Ross knows they're also learning some valuable lessons, noting, "I think it's taught them the importance of giving back to the community...this will actually help them appreciate what they have."
Scout Rylee Broach said, "I want the people at the Rescue Mission to have a happy Thanksgiving."
And fellow Scout Shelby Kanski explained, "I like helping other people and I think it's a good deed to do."
The Scouts hope to collect 2,000 pounds of food by next weekend; drop-off points are located throughout Malmstrom Air Force Base and at the Rescue Mission.
