Organizers say it has all the perks of an amazing hike in Glacier National Park, including beautiful scenery and plenty of adventure - but it's all in the comfort of the indoors.
The Montana Historical Society's Glacier Park Exhibit was unveiled in Helena this week to honor the park's upcoming centennial in May.
The exhibit, titled "Land of Many Stories: The People and History of Glacier National Park," has something for everyone and every age.
Jennifer Bottomly-O'Looney, the museum curator, explained, "Thousands of years ago people used the area that's now known as Glacier National Park, and they still use the area today using some of the same trails that those early people used to enjoy the park."
Organizers say each attendee seems to have a different favorite piece, but there are few that always seem to capture the imagination of many.
Bottomly-O'Looney noted, "We have a large artifact from the exhibit which is a bear trap used to relocated bears in the 1960's. Also, we talk about contemporary Glacier. One of the high lights is the video from the DNA bear studies."
Nora Gray drove from Great Falls to check out the exhibit, and says she's fascinated by the work: "It's wonderful to celebrate a place like Glacier park that is so special and lots of people made it so. I hope it continues to be represented so well."
The exhibit has been up since last Thursday, and the staff says the response has been outstanding. It is scheduled to run through February 2011.
