An estimated 287 Montana taxpayers are due refund checks from the Internal Revenue Service.
According to an IRS statement, the total of the unclaimed refunds in Montana is approaching $260,000, making the average refund in Montana about $903.
In Cascade County, 27 refunds totalling more than $20,000 are unclaimed; the average refund here is $770.
In Lewis & Clark County, there are 16 refunds that have gone unclaimed, at an average of $479.
Blaine, Hill, Jefferson, Roosevelt and Teton Counties also have unclaimed refunds.
Nationwide, there are nearly 108,000 unclaimed refunds, totalling approximately $124 million dollars.
The refund checks can be claimed as soon as taxpayers update their addresses with the IRS.
