If you haven't visited Old Faithful yet this year this weekend is your last chance before the roads close for the season.
Roads into the interior of Yellowstone National Park, which lead to places like Old Faithful, Canyon and Fishing Bridge, will shut down to automobile traffic at 8 a.m. Monday, Nov. 2 and will remain closed until the snow is cleared away in the spring.
Snowmobile and snowcoach travel in the park is set to begin Dec. 15.
Other closures have already taken place in and around the park. The road over Dunraven Pass between Canyon Junction and Tower Fall has closed for the season. The road through Gibbon Canyon, which connects Norris and Madison, has been closed since Aug. 17 for road construction.
Outside the park, US Highway 212 is closed east of Cooke City, ending travel for the season over the Beartooth Highway to Red Lodge and over the Chief Joseph Scenic Highway to Cody.
The road from Gardiner through Mammoth Hot Springs on to Cooke City remains open to wheeled vehicle travel all year. The Yellowstone General Store, clinic, campground and Albright Visitor Center in Mammoth Hot Springs are also open all year. Communities near and on the way to Yellowstone remain open all year.
The park warns that visitors planning to take a fall or winter automobile trip into Yellowstone should have flexible travel plans and be prepared for changing winter weather conditions, which can temporarily close some park roads at any time. Snow tires or tire chains may be required.
Travelers can receive recorded information on road conditions 24 hours a day by calling 307-344-2117.
