Members of the Great Falls Centennial Committee buried a time capsule back in 1984 containing distinctive items from that period, and today, the historic box of memorabilia was unearthed.
Phillip Nardinger, who helped bury the capsule as a 12-year old boy during the city's centennial celebration, was on hand to help dig it up today with his daughter and members of the city's centennial committee, including Norma Ashby.
Also in attendance was Bill Dakin of Columbia Falls, who is the great-great-grandson of city founder Paris Gibson.
Nardinger said, "I believe that learning from the past helps us grow in the future and keeps us from possibly re-doing mistakes that have been made and reusing ideas that possibly worked."
Inside the capsule, on-lookers found a variety of items including t-shirts, a Cascade County general election ballot, and promotional posters for city events.
The 100+ items will be donated to the county history museum.
The day before Thanksgiving, the group will bury a new time capsule to be unearthed in 2034.
