Man mauled by grizzly near Cooke City

A man was taken to the hospital after being attacked by a grizzly bear on Saturday morning in the Coulter Pass area near Cooke City.

The Park County Sheriff's Office in Livingston reports that a grizzly bear charged and started to maul a hunter about 10:26 a.m. Another hunter shot at the bear, and bullet hit the man who was attacked by the bear.

The injured hunter was taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment. There is no word at this time on the hunter's condition.

The incident is under investigation. Montana, Fish, Wildlife and Parks, along the U.S. Forest Service are assisting in the investigation.
